Our Research
The research question that we are starting with is: How can we create affirming and accurate images for teaching and learning about human sexuality in a way that honors the diversity of bodies and experiences while centering pleasure?
We are working in the tradition of action research which is defined by Hilary Bradbury as “a democratic and participative orientation to knowledge creation. It brings together action and reflection, theory and practice, in the pursuit of practical solutions to issues of pressing concern.” In participatory action research we learn and develop knowledge together as scholar-practitioners reflecting on our process.
The invitation to the research team is to create an educator’s kit that begins with collective inquiry into our own lived experiences. This includes:
Sharing the stories of our body, gender and sexual expression.
Participating in the creation of a genital portrait painted by Jote Lamar
Engaging in a collective inquiry into how to best share these stories and images with the goal to create educational tools for teachers and learners.
We are calling in a team of BIPOC, white, LGBTQAI and cisgendered people with diverse abilities as co-researchers as well as a team of facilitators to support our process. Our ideal research teammates are deeply invested in transformative justice, somatic practices, sex positive culture and education.
