Origin Story
Inspiration for this project came from Lara Catone’s challenge to teach sexual anatomy without images that represented the entire erectile network of the vulva. Jote Lamar was more than excited to put their painterly skills to the task. Through this collaboration, Our Anatomy Project emerged as an inquiry into what is possible when we come together to investigate the vast creativity nature expresses in the physicality of our genitals.
Our Anatomy Project has widened and developed into a research project asking the question “How can we create affirming and accurate images for teaching and learning about human sexuality in a way that honors the diversity of bodies and experiences while centering pleasure?”
Community Creation
Today this project is a seed in search of a community to tend the mystery of its unfolding.
Our Anatomy Project is putting the call out to a research team that is representative and affirmative of the vast creativity of nature- a team who identifies across the spectrum of gender, race and ability. A team who is ready to navigate creating a pedagogy where harmony, friendship, challenge and creative solutions can be found in difference. A team who is excited to work in the realms of transformative justice and collective somatic healing.
This is a big proposal and it is a work in progress. Interested in joining the team?
